In Ayurveda, we don't count calories, fat grams, protein, points, or weigh our food. Who wants to live like that anyway?
We eat according to the 6 flavors that nature has created in order for us to be fully nourished in body, mind, heart and spirit.
All possible food sources have been packaged accordingly as a way to inform us about each food's influence on our body-mind physiology. All 6 Rasas or tastes should be eaten at every meal in order for us to feel satisfied and insure that all of the major food groups and nutrients are included. Depending upon your dosha or mind-body type, you will favor some foods and minimize others. Below are the food lists for each dosha. When imbalances are present, you will want to eat in accordance with bringing the out of balance dosha, back in to balance. Once balance is restored, one can go back to eating for their Prakruti, or original mind-body type.
